Aurora’s Garden is part of my Night Garden Cloth series, 26.5″ x 29.5″.
Each work is made from 100% flour sack cotton. The cloth has been hand dyed, hand painted, sun painted, dye set and washed. Each image springs from an idea. During the process the dyes tend to spread or travel on the cloth. This may result in a “fuzzy” appearance, especially when photographing. The way the cloths are painted is wet dye into wet dye. There is a certain amount of control during the painting of an
image. During the drying process magic takes over and the results are not always predictable. The plants are bits and pieces from my gardens, which are mostly wild- flowers and wild takeovers. The crispness of the edges of the floral elements juxtapose the looseness of the painting medium, creating opportunities for light and shadow in amongst the flowers, leaves and vines.
The edges of the cloths are not always “straight” after the dying process. I have tried to portray these raw edges in the photos but sometimes it is necessary to crop parts of the edges. I have tried to show the edges when possible.
I have been told that these cloth images are more like wall-hangings than tea towels. Some I have made into wall hangings. It is up to the eye and desire of the beholder.
Machine wash cold with like colors, hang dry or tumble dry low. As with any tea towel, the image will fade over time and with multiple washings. I hope you love them for a long time.
All cloth works may be shipped. Please contact me, as shipping fees are additional expenses:
